The Kesatuan Business and Informatics Institute (ITB) campus held the 2022 BNSP (National Agency for Tourism Professional Certification) Competency Test (PSKK) free of charge in the tourism sector in collaboration with the Jakarta Tourism and Cruise Ship Professional Certification Institute (LSP) and the Hasanah Indonesia Tourism Professional Certification Institute (LSP). This competency test aims to produce professional experts capable of performing their duties within the scope of technical competency in their respective fields. The certification also serves to boost the confidence of certificate holders and companies, as well as gain recognition from the government in their respective professional fields. The competency test, held at the IBI Kesatuan campus from May 19-21, 2022, was attended by all hotel staff in Bogor City, according to Sayekti Sih Rumanti, Director of Competency Testing at the Jakarta Tourism and Cruise Ship Professional Certification Institute (LSP). The competency test, held on May 23-25 and June 9, 2022, included students from IBI Kesatuan, travel companies, hotel staff, and event organizer (EO) staff, according to a presentation by H. Sahlan Toro, Director of the Hasanah Indonesia Tourism LSP. The total number of participants in the free competency test, conducted by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP), in collaboration with the two LSPs and the IBI Kesatuan Undergraduate Tourism Study Program, was 510 (170 from the Tourism and Cruise Ship LSP, and 340 from the Hasanah Indonesia Tourism LSP). Mr. Bambang Hengky, Head of the Undergraduate Tourism Study Program, also hopes that this competency test will demonstrate an individual’s competitive advantage and expertise and establish credibility as a professional in a particular field. Similarly, having certified employees will make it easier for companies to obtain permits. This is because some industries require prospective employees to submit competency certificates. “In the future, competency tests/certification will be mandatory in all fields of work. Those working in a field are required to have a competency/expertise certificate; those without a certificate are not permitted to work. The system that only those with a competency certificate can work in their field has long been implemented in several developed countries, and Indonesia will likely implement it in the near future,” he said. “The presence of competent human resources in an industry will increase productivity and enhance a company’s image. Having a competency certificate will improve an employee’s bargaining position, leading to greater respect, higher positions, and higher incomes compared to those without a competency certificate,” he added. For these reasons, the Bachelor of Tourism Study Program at IBI Kesatuan has made this competency test a crucial event for many parties, such as those in the hotel industry, tour and travel, MICE, event organizers, wedding organizers, and restaurants, as well as students preparing to enter the tourism workforce.

Ms. Sayekti Sih Rumanti also offered a message to the undergraduate students of the Tourism Study Program currently studying at IBI Kesatuan. She stated that IBI Kesatuan students must be prepared to equip themselves before entering the workforce.
